Research Practices after Operational Vibration Tests on Bridges

Operational modal testing and analysis is a direct and efficient way to understand the dynamic properties of full scale bridges. For the purpose of bridge modeling, monitoring, condition assessment, damage detection, maintenance and rehabilitation, this paper is intended to share ideas and experiences that are devoted to innovative applications in full scale bridges when the bridge modal parameters were effectively identified. Real case studies include the calibration and validation of baseline finite element modeling for a newly constructed large span cable-stayed bridge and finite element model updating for a concrete filled steel tubular arch bridge. All these case studies have demonstrated that it is still a challenging task how to solve the practical issues of full scale bridges in terms of field operational vibration measurements, taking in mind problems of human comfort, structural performance, environmental effects and durability.
